The most popular straight strairlifts that O’Connor Carroll install are Acorn, Platinum and Homeglide.

Homeglide Straight Stairlifts

The HomeGlide’s Straight Stairlifts design is simple, sturdy and above all satisfies your accessibility requirements. The HomeGlide and HomeGlide Extra are fitted onto your staircase and not your wall. This allows the lift to be installed quickly, easily and with minimal disruption to your home.

The seat is comprised of thick and firm padding that ensures comfort and durability. The upholstery is also fire retardant, liquid repellent and easy to clean. The HomeGlide Extra comes with a linked footrest. This feature makes it almost effortless when unfolding the chair as the footrest is linked to the seat.

If you have a doorway at the foot of the staircase a stairlift with an automatic powered hinged track avoids a trip hazard. You simply send the lift up a few steps when not in use to leave doorways clear.

The manual swivel seat is the cheaper option of the two and requires the user to lift a lever at the top of the stairs to turn themselves onto the landing. The additional motor on the powered swivel variant will automate this process.

Acorn Straight  Stairlift

The Acorn straight stairlifts comes in a manual or power swivel version. Like all stairlifts the user faces across the stairs as the lift climbs the stairs. At the top with the manual version the user controls the lever to rotate the seat allowing the user transfer from the lift. The lift blocks the staircase in this position preventing the user from falling down the stairs.

Simply put, the manual version requires the user to rotate the seat. The power swivel version does this automatically.

Acorn are very popular machines because they are very reliable and very robust. For example O’Connor Carroll have service contracts for some councils. We regularly meet old machines that are still working away after 10 to 12 years.

Stairlift installation is within a few hours. So there is very little disturbance for the customer.  Straight stairlifts will require a power point.

Platinum Horizon Stairlift

The Platinum Horizon straight stairlift has very useful features.

As with other lifts the Horizon comes with a manual swivel seat as standard. The power swivel is an optional feature.

The Horizon Standard has a weight limit of 120kg (19st)

With the Horizon the power swivel version has a weight limit of 140kg (22st.). This is very useful for clients who would previously have opted for a heavy duty machine. The lift would have had to be ordered specifically. Whereas now it is just a standard stock item.

The power swivel version has another important feature. The lift can operate as a manual or power swivel. This is very useful. If the power swivel does not operate the user can simply use the lever. In other brands this is not the case. So very very important if there was a problem with the power swivel mechanism.
